      'Doctor' held for castrating boys

      ATHINDA: The Bathinda police, on Monday, arrested a fake doctor for
      allegedly being involved in the business of castrating young boys and
      turning them into eunuchs.

      Taking suo motu notice of news published in some newspapers on October 22,
      the Bathinda police arrested Jagir Singh alias Tunda, the "doctor" with a
      number of surgery equipment, from his Amar Pura basti residence.

      According to Jatinder Kumar Jain, district police chief, the accused was a
      retired Army man and had been booked for attempt to murder after inquiry by
      the police established that the accused was castrating boys in connivance
      with some mahants of deras of the area.

      In a complaint sent to the Punjab Human Rights Commission, the DGP and ADGP
      of Punjab, and the SSP of Faridkot, Parvati, mother of the 14-year-old-boy
      who was castrated by the "doctor", had alleged that some eunuchs of Dera Mai
      Dani, Kot Kapura, lured her son and then got him castrated.
