      Dear Fu,

      IAR is one of the best tools on the market.  You need to understand more about the memory map of the TMS470 and how to use the .icf file.

      The datasheet would be a good start for the TMS470.  But what it doesn't tell you is about the start-up code in your program.  Your start-up code programs the TMS470 with the memory map.  That is to say, the RAM and FLASH are located at addresses in the memory map which are selected by the start-up code.  The start-up code comes from IAR, so you need to get the right startup code to execute out of RAM.

      IAR has a manual for the .icf file format.

      I suggest you start with **unmodified** working examples, from IAR, where the program is built into RAM.  Your error message seems to say that the memory map doesn't match the link map.

      At some point you may desire to flash your program into FLASH and then transfer it into RAM for execution.  This will be very tricky.  You must think about exactly how you want to do this.  If you end up going in this direction, feel free to ask for help.

      Kind Regards,

      Hi ,  i am glad to receive your email .
      and now ,i am having a problem with executing code in RAM using IAR with vision 5.3x .
      could you tell me how to use the file extention .icf ?
      i have set the start and end address of ROM and RAM ,but there still are some error appearing when download code into my target cpu .(TMS470R1)
      in the file extention .icf, i set the address like that :
      define symbol __ICFEDIT_region_ ROM_start_ _   = 0x00400040;
      define symbol __ICFEDIT_region_ ROM_end__     = 0x00406FFF;
      define symbol __ICFEDIT_region_ RAM_start_ _   = 0x00407000;
      define symbol __ICFEDIT_region_ RAM_end__     = 0x00407FDF;
      however,the error follows as below:
      Mon Jun 01 23:16:29 2009: Warning: Too many verify errors, only the first 200 are displayed
      Mon Jun 01 23:16:29 2009: Warning: There were warnings during download, see Log Window
      Mon Jun 01 23:18:02 2009: Loaded debugee: E:\IARv5example\ TexasInstruments \TMS470R1B1M\ ChipDemo\ RAM\Exe\GIO. out
      Mon Jun 01 23:18:02 2009: Target reset
      Mon Jun 01 23:18:02 2009: Executing memory setup macro B1M RAM
      Mon Jun 01 23:18:04 2009: Failed to read one or more register values (busy).
      i am looking forward to your help , what will i resolve this problem?
      thank you .
