Group Description

This group is only for the 1977-1982 television series THE INCREDIBLE HULK starring Bill Bixby, Jack Colvin, and Lou Ferrigno (as THE HULK).

Director Ang Lee correctly senses this tragic aspect of Banner and his alter ego and uses it to great effect in his new film The Hulk. The movie blends aspects of both the television series and the Marvel comic on which it was based. Bill Bixby’s portrayal of the Hulk in the 1977-1982 television series The Incredible Hulk successfully explored the sadness of Banner’s character and helped set the stage for the movie. In both versions, Banner searches for a cure for his affliction rather than enjoy his sheer power as the Hulk.

His popularity inspired a successful CBS television series (1977-1982), The Incredible Hulk, starring Bill Bixby as scientist Bruce Banner, who turns into body builder Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk, after exposure to a blast of gamma rays. The great green gigantic monster known as The Hulk became the most popular series on television for five years. On cancellation fans were so outraged causing another network, NBC, to take over the franchise, producing three popular tele-films with plans for more until Bill Bixby's death from cancer in 1993 brought these plans to an end.

The immense popularity of the creature also spawned a successful CBS television series (1977-1982), which starred Bill Bixby as scientist Banner and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk. Following cancellation of the series, fans' enduring affection for the tale of hunted scientist and his angry alter ego urged network executives at NBC to bring back the Hulk to the television screen and ultimately, three more telefilms were created and aired in the late '80s. Hopes for a fourth instalment were dashed when Bill Bixby passed away from cancer in 1993.
