      Hi,

Can anyone confirm and where possible please be kind enough to point me into the right direction regarding a possible firmware/programming-software version confliction with my T2020-543-I92 UHF radio?

I have tried the latest and final v2.54 DOS based programming software with an authentic Tait RS-232 programming cable without 100% success.
What I mean by 100% success is that I get the "-- PROG --" on the LCD and are able to get a few parameters on the old DOS machine in within 2020V254.exe but get the error message:
"ERROR! The radio type and database version are incorrect for this product".

I have investigated this and so far can only deduce that I have a ridgy didge T2020 Series II that is not a hybrid of series one all mixed together. ALL parts on the logic board are surface mount with NO DIP style EPROMs; thereby indicating that it is highly likely that it is indeed a full series II T2020 and therefore the software I require must be anything no less than Tait's v3.0 WINDOWS BASED programming software.
I have confirmed this with some colleagues and the consensus is all unanimous.

Please can anyone on this forum be able to assist...or provide a means to obtain this application without me having to either spend ages finding it or pay a handsome royalty for a mere one radio I have that was given to me still freshly wrapped in plastic and never opened.
FYI I am new to this forum and not that familiar with Tait like most other brands so pleas excuse me if I seem a little amateurish on these matters.

                    SPAM filter was the prob.
                    All is cool.

                    Thanks.
                    Daniel.

BTW without making this post more than what it needs to be....JUST QUICKLY....I've checked the latest "Tait T2000 Series Model Recognition 2.pdf" what you put on the files section a few days ago and can't determine EXACTLY what kind of beast that was given to me.
                      Any thoughts?
(Tait T2000 Series 2 - Service Manual…hmmm….Doesn't seem to be in there)

                        Hi,

The only bit I am not sure of is the 92 in I92. I will have to investigate that one, it's not on my master list. Otherwise it is either a 100 or 1200 channel. Low UHF (400-470) Wide and Narrow band switchable in Software (5 or 2.5 kHz), 3ppm stabilty made for Australia. If when to switch it on with the PTT pressed it shows V5.xx Firmware ID, then it is 100 channel. If V7.xx then it is 1200 channel, and before you ask, no changing Firmware will not increase the capability from 100 to 1200 channels.

I have confirmed this with some colleagues and the consensus is all unanimous.

i think, his colleagues don't have ver3 so this way we get it as well LOL

Again, being new to Tait, the No. of channels I believe are 250.
.......I know I can get more than 100 but certainly less than 1000...and no...don;t worry, i'm not greedy enough to want 1000 channels.....LOL!...100/250/??....is fine for me.

I'll check out the firmware when I get the chance.
I look forward to your feedback regarding the I92.

                              Hi Marcus,

The windows based version Mike sent me (v2.9? - away from my desk) worked well.
Is v2.64 Windows based and if so where can i get it from?
I trust you don't have v3.0? I've read some forums and they claim to have 3.01. I have a few irons in the fire with that one case you don't have it and will advise on the outcome if sucessfull.
                              I believe it's a 50/50.

Also, would anyome be interested in a reverse-engineered and corrected programming cable schematic for Tait T700, T2000 & orica radios?
You may have seen this schematic before but I noticed it has the MAX232 IC wired completely wrong. I used a 100% authentic Tait cable to confirm my suspicions and when wired up to spec, it worked without problem.
                              :-)
                              (as confirmed with Mike's software)
Anyone interested in this (i'm asking as this may be a non-issue to you fellas).

                              tmee66.

                                Hi Marcus,

The windows based version Mike sent me (v2.9? - away from my desk) worked
                                well.
Is v2.64 Windows based and if so where can i get it from?
I trust you don't have v3.0? I've read some forums and they claim to have
3.01. I have a few irons in the fire with that one case you don't have it
and will advise on the outcome if sucessfull.
                                I believe it's a 50/50.

Also, would anyome be interested in a reverse-engineered and corrected
programming cable schematic for Tait T700, T2000 & orica radios?
You may have seen this schematic before but I noticed it has the MAX232 IC
wired completely wrong. I used a 100% authentic Tait cable to confirm my
suspicions and when wired up to spec, it worked without problem.
                                :-)
                                (as confirmed with Mike's software)
Anyone interested in this (i'm asking as this may be a non-issue to you
                                fellas).

Anyone interested in this (i'm asking as this may be a non-issue to you fellas).

                                  tmee66.

The 'corrected' one I posted in the Files section here recently is OK. My original one from years ago (kindly uploaded by someone) which is still there was wrong in the links of pins 9,10,11 & 12. As with 99% of Tait Software the latest version for a model will do most if not all the radios of that model previously made. I'll do a chart for it soon.

Hi - in the original circuit (now corrected) use is made of electro caps between pins 1/3 & 4/5 & 16/2 and pin 6 to earth. Should electros still be used ?

My original one from years ago (kindly uploaded by someone) which is still there was wrong in the links of pins 9,10,11 & 12. As with 99% of Tait Software the latest version for a model will do most if not all the radios of that model previously made. I'll do a chart for it soon.

The circuit was representative of the components used in that particular issue. Later versions use 100nF chip caps and have even gone to a MAX 3232 for lower voltage operation. It really only needs to show what the circuit did, which was buffer the voltages between RS232 and TTL, but by running through the IC twice the signal phase was retained. Other circuits may work, MAX232 or whatever, but if you use what the maker supplied, you have the best chance of it working and not causing problems.

My original one from years ago (kindly uploaded by someone) which is still there was wrong in the links of pins 9,10,11 & 12. As with 99% of Tait Software the latest version for a model will do most if not all the radios of that model previously made. I'll do a chart for it soon.

Sure. I guess it depends on what IC you re using. As long as everything is configured electronically as per manaufacturer data specs then you should be fine.

Sure. I guess it depends on what IC you're using. As long as everything is configured electronically as per manaufacturer data specs then you should be fine.
FYI when I reversed engineered the authentic Tait programming cable, I noticed they used a MAX202 (SOIC?) with 0.1uF(?) (100n) SMDs sprinkled on the tiny PCB contained within the DB9 shell. I also noticed the links of pins 9,10,11 & 12 were indeed incorrect on the schematic. So after making a simple standard MAX232 based cable with 10uF electro caps in accordance with the MAX232 datasheet and my findings; everything worked.
......with this in mind, if you still want the corrected schematic pls advise.
Thanks for your new schematic also niteviser.
                                          Best one i've seen.

BTW I have a T2000 service manual (soft copy).
If anyone's intertested then please advise.
(Again, as I am new to Tait/this-forum, I'll ask first this since you guys most probably already have it).

                                                    MAX232 Datasheet shows Pin 13 as R1in and Pin 14 as T1out ?
I dont fully understand what is happening within the IC perhaps I have read it wrong. Has it something to do with the loops between 10/12 & 9/11 ?

                                                    Thanks

Does the LED indicate Data being sent to the radio ? - If it only indicates "power on" the 560ohm Resistor should go to earth ???

I am currently doing a corrected version (and triple checking) with some added info on the radio connection points. The LED was to indicate that the 5V reg was working, confirming it therefore had +V from the radio (2 for 1). The T2000's had an occasional habit of the 10R limiting resistor on the 13.8V supply to Pin 1 on the Mic socket going high (~2K). It measured 13V OK, but dropped low when the Prog lead was attached.
