Group Description

This group has been set up as sort of a "club" for those who own, build, or wish to own the T-40 experimental aircraft designed by Eugene L. "Gene" Turner. And to provide a place for builders and owners of this classic design to discuss their projects and airplanes. For information about plans go visit Gene's web site at: http://www.turnert-40airplanes.com/

Here is a little information about the T-40. In 1961, Gene and his T-40 won the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Outstanding Design Award and in 1962 he won 2nd place in the EAA sponsored design contest for a folding-wing, trailerable, home-built aircraft. The Turner T-40 is a low-wing cantilever monoplane with wings that can be folded back for storage and easy transportation to and from an airport. It is constructed of wood, steel, and fiber-glass. The original Turner T-40 was powered by a Continental A-65 but this engine was only used for about 9 months. It was replaced by a Continental C85-FJH fuel-injected four-cylinder horizontally-opposed, air-cooled engine providing a max speed of 170 mph, cruise speed of 143 mph, and a range of about 500 miles.

The photo on the home page is of Gene Turner working on his latest project. This plane is a T-40A and will be the latest incarnation of Ophelia Bumps.

All of you builders and T-40 owners come and join the Club!
