If I hadn't already spent two weeks at summer camp and been in the doghouse at work I'd be on this ship without a second thought. There is room for at least 4 scouts and several adult male leaders. What an amazing opportunity. Please email Captain Jim (email address below) if you are interested.Mr. McIntyre---------- Forwarded message ----------

$150 for a week at sea! Awesome!
Please pass this notice along to potential “cruisers.” The info below is from Dave Mountney and I have left in the personal info such as “my son”.
Dear Fellow Scouters,
Sea Scout Ship 228 based out of Linden, NJ (Patriots’ Path Council) is going on their long cruise this coming Saturday. https://seascoutship228.shutterfly.com/ Within the last week, four boys have dropped out of going after deciding they’ve had too much summer including attending the Jamboree. The Ship has plenty of room for more boys (and a few more male adults), if you know any teenaged boy that might like to be a part of this great experience please contact the vessel’s Captain Jim Zatwarnicki 551-580-0008 or jimmyzat@... as soon as possible. My son will be going on this cruise with Ship 228. Due to the ship’s accommodations and BSA policy, only males can be on board. Here is a message from the Captain:
Sea Scout Ship 228 will be hosting their annual long cruise aboard the Sea Dart II, a historic Army T-boat built in 1953, from 24-30 August 2013. The vessel will depart the Sea Scout Base in Linden, NJ bound for Old Saybrook CT. From Old Saybrook the Sea Dart will continue on to Block Island (RI), Greenport (NY), and New London (CT). Training will be conducted aboard on various aspects of navigation and seamanship. The vessel will also carry a small sailboat, canoe, and motorboat for use and training while in port. During port calls participants will have the opportunity to explore the ports, enjoy the beaches, and make use of the small boats for recreation & training. Participants are requested to arrive on the morning of 24 August to load their gear and become familiarized with the vessel and their duties. The vessel will arrive back at the Sea Scout Base in Linden, NJ on the evening of Friday, 30 August. Any interested youth should contact Captain James Zatwarnicki at 551-580-0008 or jimmyzat@...
Jim holds a masters license, while doing his regular job, he usually is the Captain of a sea-going container ship. Jim has been a member of Ship 228 since he was a teenager and decided on his career while on a long cruise. He knows the Sea Dart II stem to stern and does a lot of work on her personally. There are 2 other men going on this cruise that also hold masters license, one is from Connecticut. The reason this Sea Scout ship is so late in going on their annual cruise is that the ship was in Haul earlier this summer https://sites.google.com/site/seadart2ship228/ship-news/2013haulout/2013%20Haulout.jpg for maintenance, repair, USCG inspection and re-certification (which is voluntary).
The cost of this cruise in $150 (they are charging us extra: a few batches of my wife’s cookies), which has been reduced due to the Ship’s committee’s funding raising. The Sea Dart II can pick up and drop off crew as they stop in some ports in Connecticut. As mentioned above, the cruise is scheduled to conclude on Friday the 30th, but if the weather is bad or the crew is having a good time, they may extend it by a day or two (it’s Labor Day Weekend). Again, if interested, please contact Jim Zatwarnicki as soon as possible. If he does not answer immediately, he is most like on the Sea Dart II prepping her for this cruise or shopping for provisions.
