      Sunnyvale Cafe Group Etiquette

      [Last updated 2008-06-19]

Please read this entire message before you post anything to the list.

The purpose of this group is to improve the community and neighborhoods of Sunnyvale, CA through better communication. Consider it a cross between an "open" electronic city information kiosk and a local cafe where people can get together and chat about many different things. Please note however that contentious or political discussions should occur on SunnyvalePolitics, not SunnyvaleCafe.

The SunnyvaleCafe list is a "sister" list to the FreecycleSunnyvale and SunnyvalePolitics lists.

      Who may join:

Anyone with an interest in Sunnyvale, CA. New members are moderated to ensure they abide by the guidelines and demonstrate good etiquette. When in doubt, check with the moderator first.

      What's OK to post:

      • Local community announcements
      • Local news & events
      • Discussion of non-political situations affecting Sunnyvale
      • Requests for referrals and recommendations for goods or services in Sunnyvale
      • General information sharing that is helpful to the Sunnyvale community

      What's not OK:

      • SPAM
      • Personal attacks
      • Profane language, rudeness, etc
      • "Adult" content
      • Questions about list moderation. If you have moderation questions please send them to the -owner address and not to the public list.
      • Commercial advertising or promotions (free community event announcements may be ok but check with a moderator first)
      • Questions about how the list is run or moderated (please send these only to the -owner address for this group)
      • Political or contentious issues (go to SunnyvalePolitics instead)
      • Discussion of topics on the 'Worn Out Topics" list (currently nothing is on this list)

In general this list is quite flexible, but if in doubt ask the moderators first.

Please be positive and use this list with care. This list depends on everyone's good manners and goodwill to help it run smoothly. Please be gracious and tolerant of all on the list. If you notice anything that might have slipped by the moderators or if you have other questions or concerns, please contact the moderators. Do not question the moderators on the public list. If you have moderation questions please send them to the -owner address.

Running this type of open forum can be tricky. Please support your volunteer moderators and be stellar role models of good citizenship.

The moderators reserve the right to moderate posts and adjust these guidelines as they see fit to keep this an open, welcoming, safe, helpful, on topic (relevant to Sunnyvale), and interesting online community.

      Thanks and have fun!
