Group Description

Welcome to Sun Tzu, a discussion group for the text and application of the princples of the ancient Chinese military writer, Sun Tzu (Sunzi in pinyin transliteration, Sonshi in Japanese Romaji)

This text speaks to how to engage in and manage conflict in the least possible destructive way and is arguably the oldest strategic military treatise in the world; one that is still being used and taught today.

This group will have several overlapping focusses

1) Discussion of the text and different translations of it, including the writings of other Chinese military writers (e.g. Sun Pin) of roughly the same period (before current era) and comparisons to other classics of military writing since then (Clausewitz, Saxe, Machiavelli, etc.) including its application to military intelligence (Handel, et. al).

2) Discussion of applications of Sun Tzu in the military area.

3) Discussions of applications of Sun Tzu to non-military areas, including politics, business, interpersonal conflict, martial arts and avoidance of conflict/war.

Flaming, trolling and all forms of prohibited behavior under the egroups term of service (http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/) will result in one warning and subsequent loss of membership in the group for a period of no less than six months, or more at my discretion. Civil discourse and informed disagreement will be the rule for this group.

If substantial citation of copyright material occurs, please indicate full reference to the cited work and keep within the guidelines of "fair use".

Grossly off-topic posts (so you've written a book, fine but don't try and post it) in the judgement of the moderator will result in immediate removal from the list.
