The founding father Thomas Hardy emigrated to Australia in 1850 from
Gittisham, England. Many of the original settlers in the "Stonehaven"
area were from Scotland and named the place Stonehaven.

There is a convoluted connection with the Stonehaven Cup for yachting
(not to be confused with the Stonehaven Cup discussed in message 536
et.seq.). The yachting was named after Lord Stonehaven, Governer
General of Australia in the 1920s. Thomas Hardy's great great grandson
won this cup in recent times.

      .....a wee break from genealogy!!
