Group Description

Do you despair because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Are you worried about the plight of the poor and uninsured? Or are you disturbed by the myriad financial and psychological emergencies faced by returning veterans? How about injustices suffered by immigrants and victims of domestic violence?

If you are wondering what you can do to promote peace and justice with Your Hands, as a St. Luke Peace & Justice team member, there is a lot you can do, even without leaving your computer.

Call (503) 246-2325 extension 14. See "files" at left.

We are a nonpartisan group of St. Luke Lutheran Church members actively involved online to live out our commitment to peace and justice. We stay in touch by email, for mutual support, to share online news and action alerts, to provide links to advocacy opportunities, and to give notice of local events that promote peace and justice.

With just a few clicks, you can help change public policy by signing petitions or emailing your representatives in Congress or the state legislature. We believe that the internet political movement toward peace and justice has proved its huge impact in recent times and elections.

Or, step out with us. We bring peace and justice classes, speakers, singers, and activists to St. Luke Lutheran Church. Besides manning the Veterans' Bridge Fund, we support St. Luke's Hunger Advocacy task force, the new St. Luke Warming Center, the West Women's shelter, and the New Sanctuary Movement, among other social programs. We both put on our own events and attend interesting events of diverse faith groups. Over the past three years, we have formed unbreakable bonds with quite a number of other peace and advocacy groups from outside St. Luke, always building community. Please join us and help us in advocacy/education, outreach, support for one another, and advancement of matters of peace and justice.
