      Where has the autumn gone
      With its trademark
      Of heavy champagne-colored leaves?
      I wander somewhere
      In a zebra-striped
      Jungle
      Where I hear only
      The rumblings
      Of distant cars
      And I smell
      Old engine grease
      On the asphalt.
      There are no seasons
      Here-
      Nor flowers of any kind-
      Just the rough wind
      And the long
      Narrow tunnel.
      Even here-
      I can think of you
      And dance
      In the cool darkness
      While I wait
      In hope
      Of seeing
      A single
      Yellow leaf-
      More beautiful
      Than all the gold
      Of Africa.
