Aspire to sing with Sri Chinmoy but haven't immediate opportunity?
Radio Sri Chinmoy recordings offer some possibilities - and sometimes
For example, in the songbook "Sundaratama Dekha Dilo Aji" the song
"Maner Bale" has a melody slightly different from that sung by Sri
Chinmoy on the 2005 Christams trip recording, which can be found at
Following the musical score with voice or instrument, while playing
the recording of Sri Chinmoy singing - harmony.
Another possibility - a song might be sung in English while the
recording is in Bengali. For any who may not have the songbook, the
songbook translation of "Maner Bale" is:
My Lord, with my mind's strength
I have failed to discover You.
But with my heart's strength
I have claimed You and owned You.
My understanding of Bengali is improving but has room to reach. Can
it be that some of the words are different in the songs and songbook
versions? In one song it seemed I sang words which expressed an
obstacle, while the recording of Sri Chinmoy melodically provided a
revision of the words.
A natural kind of 'round' results as line repeats differ between the
recording and the songbook notated music. If you are out of practice
like I am - be ready - your `round' attempt
in sheer happiness
Preface to the songbook "Sundaratama Dekha Dilo Aji" mentions that Sri
Chinmoy has created new tunes for some of the poems he had put to
music earlier and which appeared in the songbook "Pole-Star Promise
Light". I wonder how the two sets of notes might go together, the
newer and the older?
Thank-you to all those behind radiosrichinmoy.
[It would be very nice if Sundari could be kindly asked if she feels to
comment these interesting remarks.]
