Only 19 days until the OHEN Inclusive Homeschool Convention! Have you registered yet? If not, hop over to www.ohen.org/registration and register now as workshops are filling up. I hear that some of the children's art workshops are already completely full. This is going to be an awesome convention with workshops that are helpful to anyone working with children in an educational setting; not just homeschooling.

This is also a good time to RSVP at PineValleyPS@... if you want to sell your used curriculum at the convention. When registering be sure to tell the registrar if you have a learner that you'd like to participate in the graduate recognition. It's informal but a nice way of acknowledging the end of your child's homeschooling years.

Does the thought of teaching math and science leave you feeling overwhelmed? Are you looking for new ideas to enhance your current math and science studies? Then check out these exciting workshops:

In his No Math, No Problem workshop John Bennett will discuss the changing needs in math education. This is a great workshop for anyone wanting to get a new perspective on current math standards. http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/TEDxManhattanBeach-John-Bennett  http://iwannabigbrain.com

In his Advanced Dissections at Home Joel Thomas will be leading parents in dissecting a dogfish shark while answering questions about doing dissections at home. Teens are welcome to register for this workshop. If you have younger learners there is also Elementary Dissections at Home where he leads you through a sea star dissection.  Joel will also discuss where to find the necessary supplies and any safety concerns. If your kids love biology or nature studies be sure to register for one of these workshops!

Amy Grant will discuss how to use games, books, hands-on activities and household items to keep math fun for the preschool and early elementary ages in her Math Playground workshop.

Want to show your child how art and math are related? Then sign them up for Math-terpieces from Cwerks. http://www.cwerks.com/classes.html

Misti Stromme and Jesse Hampton's Super Cool Science is sure to turn your kids into science fans if they aren't already. I can honestly say that Misti has been my kids' absolute favorite science teacher for the elementary years.

The Amazing Whales workshop from OMSI is sure to be a hit! The kids actually go INSIDE of a huge inflatable whale. Perfect for kicking off a marine life unit study this summer. http://issuu.com/omsi/docs/educatorresourceguide?mode=embed&pageNumber=34
