      Taking advantage of the great weather and long weekend, I checked a
      few places around Phoenix in the past three days. Numbers of
      individuals were low compared to earlier, but there was a surprisingly
      large variety of species still on the wing: 25 total (details below),
      including:

      - NEON SKIMMER
      - RED ROCK SKIMMER
      - RED-TAILED PENNANT
      - STRIPED SADDLEBAGS
      - BLACK SETWING
      - WANDERING GLIDER
      - PALE-FACED CLUBSKIMMER
      - ARROYO BLUET
      - CALIFORNIA DANCER
      - AZTEC DANCER
      - POWDERED DANCER
      - FIERY-EYED DANCER
      - AMERICAN RUBYSPOT

      (All above species photographed except glider and clubskimmer).

      *** 11/28/08, 1:15 PM – 3 PM:

      Wild Horse Pass stream, Gila River Indian Res., Maricopa Co., AZ
      Partly cloudy, calm, clear, 68 F

      9 species seen:

      - Variegated Meadowhawk: 30+, mostly M; pairs in tandem, ovipositing
      - Common Green Darner: 3+ pairs in tandem, ovipositing
      - Roseate Skimmer: 3 M
      - Familiar Bluet: Scattered
      - Powdered Dancer: 1 M
      - Blue-ringed Dancer: ~5 M; a few F; 1 pair in tandem
      - Rambur's Forktail: Widespread
      - Citrine Forktail: 1 F
      - American Rubyspot: 5-10 M; 1 F

      Salt River: Rio Salado Wetlands Restoration Project, Phoenix, Maricopa
      Co., AZ
      Sunny, calm, 68 F

      11 species seen:

      - Flame Skimmer: 1 M
      - Red-tailed Pennant: 3 M
      - Wandering Glider: 1
      - Variegated Meadowhawk: Widespread; pairs in tandem, ovipositing
      - Roseate Skimmer: 2 M + 1 F
      - Black Setwing: 3 M, 1 F
      - Common Green Darner: ~5
      - Striped Saddlebags: 1 M + 1 F OVIPOSITING (apparently first
      documented record of female of this species ovipositing in AZ/CA)
      - Blue-ringed Dancer: 2 M
      - Familiar Bluet: ~5
      - Rambur's Forktail: A Few

      - Variegated Meadowhawk: 1 F
      - Pale-faced Clubskimmer: 1
      - Arroyo Bluet: 2+ M
      - California + Aztec Dancer: ~15 total; pairs in tandem; both species
      IDed in hand
      - Springwater Dancer: Widespread; pairs in tandem
      - Blue-ringed Dancer: ~ 5; 1 pair in tandem
      - Fiery-eyed Dancer: 1 M
      - Desert Firetail: 3 M
      - Great Spreadwing: 1 M
      - American Rubyspot: ~30; all except 1 were males
