Each jurisdiction with wildland responsibility has at least one pre-designated helispot which are reviewed annually and put on a list distributed countywide. In addition, these and other jurisdictions without any wildland responsibility have preplanned "landing zones" (helispot) in their districts such as parks, school athletic fields etc. these are generally used for transferring medical/trauma victims to a helicopter for transport to a hospital. Helispots are not staffed until needed and are identified by the district number plus a letter such as 44-A, 44-B, etc. The helicopters are deployed to various locations throughout the county according to weather conditions and other needs but are based in Pacoima. Helispots can be and have been set up wherever needed with safety and incident needs taken into consideration.
