A useful post, Colin. Slovak Radio's headline would have been correct,
had it said that the government-sponsored investigation has been closed.
The case itself is far from "closed" -- the NGOs that brought it up have
dismissed the results of the investigation, and have said they will take
the case to international courts and bodies, if necessary. After the
release of the government report, the NGOs said that the sterilized Romani
women had been intimidated by the police during the investigation in order
to make them withdraw their complaints, which most of them did. The
government, on the other hand, implied that the women's complaints had
been prompted by the NGOs, which told the mostly poor and unemployed women
that they could win substantial compensation in court, if the
      sterilizations were involuntary.
