Slovak Festival - come, be part
- The Slovak Studies Program has organized its Annual Slovak Heritage Festival at the University of Pittsburgh this Sunday (11/4), 1-5.
Meet the Slovak-Worlders who perform -- Ben Sorensen, the fujara -- give talks -- Carl Kotlarchik on searching military records -- and showcase traditional culture -- Helene Cincebeaux (including a parade of folk costumes) and Joe Armata. The details and directions are here:
The festival is for free. Kindly, consider helping:
A) Contribute a Slovak item (an object or food) to the raffles basket. If you have and will be bringing an item you can part with, call:
Chris Metil (412) 624-5906
Even if you cannot arrive by the beginning of the festival, the object you donate will help defray the costs next year.
B) Make and donate baked items for resale at the festival.
C) Consider making a donation, any amount will help.
Although the festival benefits from free use of the premises at the university and the participants volunteer, we still incur considerable costs for various university services when college-wide contracts obligate us to hire them (while we might have been able to accomplish the same with volunteers otherwise).
Thank you for considering to help, and welcome.
