Subject: [Slovak-World] Slovak visitors
I had visitors from Bratislava a month ago, but they only stayed two nights. They took a cruise out of Miami and then drove all over Florida and found our house all right. They were my late cousin's son, his wife, and her niece who was the translator. Ondrej drives me around Slovakia when I visit, so I was disappointed they had such a short stay. He and his wife do not speak English, but I understand Slovak.
I took them to the Kennedy Space Center and we spent the whole day there. I was amazed they knew so much about space travel. After, I took them to a Slovak-owned Italian restaurant in Cocoa Beach and requested Rado, a waiter from Pezinok. Ondrej & his wife did not need a translator there. They enjoyed the fresh fish dinner--something they don't get to enjoy so much back home.
Ondrej's wife notices a lot. She said there are so many churches in Florida, the beaches are vast and empty, you can drive past cars using the right lane, there are so many obese women in the USA, etc. Ondrej would laugh when I spoke the little I can, in the Zahorie dialect. I was sad to see them leave. Julia M.
