Exchange Rate / ATM
- I returned from Europe a week or so ago and withdrew Czech Crowns from an ATM, and just out of curiosity wanted to see how much better the exchange rate is than when one goes to the bank.
The exchange rate the money exchangers advertised was 18.50 Crowns to a dollar. At the ATM I picked up 5000 Kcs for $262.44 + 2.62 VISA fee (a new surcharge they started a few years ago to squeeze travelers; for years there was no extra fee), the exchange rate calculates out to 18.91 without the 1% VISA fee or 18.72 with the extra fee calculated in.
So for people traveling to Europe, it appears the ATM offers a net 1% better rate than going to a bank or money exchange.
