BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (UPI) -- Taking advantages of European Union
membership, Slovakians are leaving their capital Bratislava to live
      in much cheaper neighboring Hungary.

Since the two countries became full members of the European Union in
2004, many Slovaks have moved from expensive Bratislava for a 10-
minute drive to the town of Rajka in Hungary, Belgrade`s Beta news
      agency said Thursday.

With their countries being EU members, Slovaks and Hungarians can
      freely cross the borders.

Some 70 Slovak families have already moved to Rajka, while many
others are currently buying land and building houses in the
      Hungarian provincial town.

When compared with the prices in Slovakia, real estate is cheaper in
Hungary as a owning house in Rajka costs as much as renting an
apartment in a newly-built housing block in Bratislava.

The cost of living in Hungary is the same or lower than that in the
wealthiest region of southwestern Slovakia, Beta said.
