Man dies after coal mine accident
A miner has died at the UK's biggest pit at Daw Mill colliery near
      Nuneaton in Warwickshire.

Trevor Steeples, 46, from West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, was
brought to the surface after collapsing underground, but was pronounced dead.

The Health and Safety Executive have begun an investigation in to the
death, thought to be the first in a UK mine since 2002.

It is focusing on a build up of methane gas where Mr Steeples was working.

The compound supervisor lived with his partner Nicola and 13-year-old
      son Andrew.

He was part of a team preparing for the recovery of equipment when
      the incident took place.

A spokesman for the firm which operates the mine said investigations
by the Mines Inspectorate, UK Coal and mining officials were on-going
into the circumstances surrounding the death.

He added that colleagues had chosen not to work for the day as a mark
of respect for the "experienced and well-respected" employee.
