M. Mark Stolarik, Ph.D. (Minnesota, 1974), is Professor of History
holder of the Chair in Slovak History and Culture at the University
Ottawa. From 1979 to 1991 he was President and CEO of the
for Ethnic Studies in Philadelphia, and Director of its press.
a specialist in the history of immigration and ethnic groups in
America, with emphasis on the Slovak experience. He has
books and over 60 articles in the field, including Growing Up on
Side: Three Generations of Slovaks in Bethlehem,
(1985) and Immigration and Urbanization: The Slovak
(1989). He recently edited The Slovak Republic: A Decade of
1993-2002 (2004). Prof. Stolarik was also a consultant and
the Harvard Encyclopedia of American Ethnic Groups (1980) and
Encyclopedia of Canada?s Peoples (1999).
Currently, Prof. Stolarik is researching and writing the book
Where is My
Home? A Slovak Odyssey in the 20th Century. His lecture will
first chapter of this book, which focuses on Slovak immigration to
America. A question and answer period will follow the talk.
