      Hi Paul - I don't think it is the same as that is fried and kolac~ky are baked in the oven.
       
      Kolac~ky as i knew it growing up were like little raised dough buns with sweet cheese and raisin filling; or finely chopped nuts in a mini-rolled up thing, others were squares folded with points in and filled with lekvar and then ones filled with sugar and poppy seed - not our favorites back then - we called them "dirt" - funny and now i love it.  However this is a Moravian Slovak tradition and today I cheat and make it with a simple cream cheese dough and powdered sugar dough - no rising.
       
      In most of Slovakia "kolac~" is more like a nut roll. All very interesting and totally delicious!
       
      A kolac~ in the Czech repubic is more like a round Danish with jam filling in the center and a dollop of sweet cheese in the middle. In northern Moravia it morphs into aa large pizza with sections for all the different fillings.I find it all very intriguing.
