      A current index of the purchasing power in Europe places countries in
      unexpected positions. The index is not based on exchange rates. It
      takes account of how much people can buy in their own country after
      tax, social security and similar payments. In the list below, the
      purchasing power in each country is expressed relative to an employed
      person's purchasing power in Slovakia (= 100%):
