      HISTORICAL ARCHAEOLOGIST, Project Officer Grade 3/4, Research Unit,
      Cultural Heritage Division, Policy & Science Directorate, Hurstville.
      Temporary (6 months) full-time. Position No: NPC03/054.
      Total remuneration package valued to $73,883p.a including salary ($59,402 -
      $66,954p.a).

      We are seeking an historical archaeologist to undertake
      cultural heritage research tasks (both Aboriginal and non-Indigenous)
      within the historical period in NSW and to manage researchers
      contracted by NPWS to undertake research in this field. The research
      will have an archaeological focus, aiming to provide information and
      depth of knowledge for conservation, management and interpretation and
      to ensure that the Service achieves its legislative and organisational
      obligations. The focus will be on site recording (rather than
      excavation) within the context of a cultural landscape approach and on
      linking archaeology with written and oral history records. The
      successful applicant will be required to collaborate and assist on
      existing projects and lay the groundwork for future projects.

      Selection Criteria:
      Degree in Science or related discipline.
      Experience in designing and carrying out significant research in historic heritage on
      an independent basis and a familiarity with and demonstrated experience
      in historic heritage research in Australia.
      Knowledge of and experience in the field of historical archaeology, particularly as it
      applies to cultural heritage, including Aboriginal historic period heritage.
      Demonstrated project and financial management experience.
      Well developed written skills to publication standard and well-developed
      verbal communication skills.
      Current drivers licence.
