I know it's been a while since Serenity was shown and there's a renewed interest with replays, but I'm looking for people who have a love of writing with the added interest of playing RPGs. I know most people think of forums first and if you're really lucky you can find an table-top game using Serenity or Cortex System source books. What some people don't know of is that there's a way to RP like a forum with the descriptive writing like forums but with a tabletop feel including the ooc silliness, sheets, dice rolling, skills, xp, and most importantly, the quickness of being connected at the same time that a chat offers.
It's an older form of RP called MU* and as seasoned as some people may be at the internet, many people have never heard of it, and it is still alive. We just really need some more story tellers and new blood to play and help spread word of mouth.
The game I'm talking about is one called The Cortex - you can read up about it at http://www.vfocus.com/cortex . It takes place 5 years after the signal was sent out. It's been around since 2008 and it's still being expanded to include new in-game locations.
It's not your typical chat room as it may appear to be (far from it!) and requires a telnet client. I know that not everyone will find it something they will be interested in enough to get a client (they're free) let alone trying to figure out all the ins and outs of even connecting to the game. So I suggest if you want to try it out, give it a walk-around, head over to http://www.mudconnect.com/fmud/ and select 'the cortex' from the side menu, click 'play now'.
To log in as a guest type:
connect guest guest
then hit enter.
To say things on the public channel type:
+pub <text here>
Then hit enter. And <>'s just explain what goes where, you don't include them. So you'd type something like: +pub Hello, brand new here and I have questions, anyone around?
If you've never used a MU* before, I have a very quick read tutorial on my 'unofficial' page for brand-new-to-MU* players that you can find here: http://fireflyrpg.weebly.com/guide-to-mu.html - it's a walk through that will hopefully explain what a MU* is and some of the basic commands to help you navigate and understand the game as a new player.
We are absolutely new player friendly no matter if you've never played on a MU ever before or you've only played a particular type (MUD vs MOO or MUSE vs MUX) we are more than happy to hold a hand and show you through the process. Hope you'll give it a try and thanks for reading!
