- Apr 4, 2009My name is William Prater, and I'm here to recruit you to the cause
of the Browncoat! I am contacting you because at some point, your
name has been given as someone who could really help our cause! I
need help and advice on planning Can't Stop The Serenity -
Nashville - 2009. Here we are.... approximately three months from
the intended date of CSTS- Nashville and I'm looking for a crew to
help make this a reality. So what do you say? - - - - - CAN YOU
aim to misbehave . . . . on the big screen in Nashville Tennessee?
Before we continue, a brief commercial interruption to answer some
questions. . . .
1.) Why this time of year? The reason for the date is that is Joss
Whedon's (the creator of Firefly and Serenity) birthday, and it is
the World Wide date of the event, so cities, states, and countries
will all be doing the same screening at the same time. At this
point I'm open to doing the event on any date from June 23th until
July 21st. So what date would you prefer, and why?
2.)Why this movie? Well, if you're unfamiliar with "Serenity", it
is often credited as "the movie that shouldn't have been". I mean
it's based on a show that lasted a mere one season, accrued less
than 5 million viewers a week, and didn't even beep on most
people's radar until after it was cancelled. But after it was
cancelled, it created such a whirlwind, and found a following that
rivals most sci-fi shows that were on for six or seven seasons or
longer. It created such a stir, that Joss Whedon wrote "Serenity"
as the next chapter in the Firefly universe and along with the
fans, demanded that the movie be made. "Serenity" is one of the
first movies ever, TO BE CREATED FOR THE FANS BY THE FANS. To this
day, Firefly is listed in TV Guide's top 25 Cult Favorite TV
Shows!!!
3. What is Equality Now? Equality Now works to end violence and
discrimination against women and girls around the world through the
mobilization of public pressure. During the last week of June 2006,
Joss Whedon's fans, the Browncoats, organized 47 screenings of his
film "Serenity" in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United
Kingdom and the United States. The screenings were held to benefit
Equality Now and celebrate Joss' birthday. Earnings totaling over
$60,000 have been reported. In 2007, events are scheduled in 51
cities in nine countries. Equality Now is extremely grateful for
the support of the Browncoats and inspired by the tremendous energy
and commitment they have put into their efforts to support our work
to end human rights abuses against women and girls around the
world. For more info, visit www.equalitynow.org
4. Where is the event happening? Well, that sorta depends on you.
How, you ask? Well, depending on how many people respond, and are
willing to help plan and execute everything, the bigger the event.
I've been looking at several venues, from The Belcourt Theater to
OutCentral and have even thought about using Opry Mills 20 or
Hollywood 27. So what's your opinion? And how can we make this a
reality?
And now back to the infomercial. . . . .
So, what is needed for this event, you ask? Well, BROWNCOATS
UNITE!!! I'm looking for individuals with contacts, or who want to
make contacts, who are self motivated (or motivated by the
movement) because, believe me when I say I am so not a
micro-manager. You will become the backbone of the Tennessee
Browncoats participation in CSTS World Wide, and this is the first
time Nashville will have been involved in this event. I wanna make
the first one as glorious as possible. So, for more details,
contact me,Will, at williamprater@... or call me
at 615.260.9659 I hope to hear from you all. . . .
As always, Your servant . . . Will Prater
