2019 !  If I would have known I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.   But the beat goes on and Sophie returns at California and New York.

Sophie Tucker was a consummate performer on stage, screen and radio. Her career spanned six decades. She was dubbed the first lady of show business, and was known for her delivery of the “naughty song,” performed with such gusto that many commentators described her as a force of nature. In addition to her imposing presence and legendary artistry, Tucker was also known as a great humanitarian.
Another force of nature, Tony nominee and MAC Award-winner Sharon McNight, brings her critically acclaimed one-woman concert about Tucker to the Rubicon stage for two performances onlySaturday, January 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the 2019 Janet and Mark L. Goldenson Broadway Concert Series.
This biographical concert, written by McNight, chronicles the life and career of Tucker.
Featuring the music and history of burlesque, vaudeville, Broadway and Las Vegas, the show features over two dozen songs made famous by Tucker including compositions by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, DeSylva & Brown, and Tucker’s 1928 million-record-selling “My Yiddishe Mama.” Musical Direction is by Richard Riccardi.
The Chicago Sun Times raves, “Without missing a beat, McNight delivers a must-see show…”
The L.A. Times enthuses, “McNight gives the performance of a lifetime as the last of the red-hot mamas, belting with crystal-breaking authority and then pulling her readings down to intimate, hypnotically compelling whispers.” “
“McNight is Sophie, from the first naughty wisecrack to the final fun-loving wink,” according to The Denver Post.
The San Francisco Examiner said “McNight’s manner captures Sophie perfectly and she drives home the lyrics with Tucker’s inflections and power.”
