Group Description

The Senior Olympics is open to seniors age 50 and over who compete in sports on a competitive basis by age group; starting at age 50-54, 55--59 etc. Each state and province in Canada have a state Senior Olympics once a year and then every two years the group meets in one pre-selected state to compete on a National level. These games are called the Senior Games and their headquarters are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The next Senior Games will be held in the year 1999 in Florida.
There are qualifying requirements to compete in the National Senior Games. For example, in Maryland, you must win a Gold, Silver or Bronz medal to compete in the nationals in swimming.

Some states have "open games" meaning that you don't have to live in that state to compete with them.

There are individual events in all track and field sports, swimming, archery, golf, etc. There are also team events such as baseball, tennis etc.
