      Here is a link to a video showing the weirdest use of Tesla coil. It is being used as a speaker. Driven by some PWM electronics sound is actually reproduced from the ionizing of the air. Lacks some fidelity but a neat application anyway.

        Here's a related kit produced by students in the Seattle area.


        It only uses 15KV, but it's PWM'd to produce audio in the same way. If you keep the wind off of the spark, and realize it's only a tweeter, then fidelity is actually surprisingly good.

        This effect was used in the movie a few years back called The Sorcerer s Apprentice. But I would not be surprised if Tesla had not already done this first.
