      Don't dispair. Remember that ANY ten-minute ham radio contact
      qualifies for the merit badge, as does a simulated contact, as long
      as proper procedure is used. You could use a repeater contact, or
      send one operator to the far side of camp to talk to the Scout on a
      handheld.

      Requirement 7(a)(2) says:
      "Carry on a ten-minute real or simulated ham radio contact using
      voice or Morse code; use proper call signs, Q signals, and
      abbreviations."
