Amateur Radio Satellite AO-51 in JOTA Mode
- AMSAT and the operating team for AO-51 have announced the schedule for October and it includes opportunities for JOTA. AO-51 has two repeaters, one that is normally un VHF up and UHF down and another that is rotated between different modes and band pairs. For JOTA weekend, this second radio will also be in V/U mode and they are asking users to give way to JOTA stations.
From the schedule release by Mark Hammond, N8MH,
> October 10 (late UTC)The output power of this repeater is somewhat lower than the main one but it should make for good possibilities to do Satellite demonstrations that have a good chance of reaching other Scout groups.
> FM Repeater, V/U
> Uplink: 145.920 MHz FM (no PL tone)
> Downlink: 435.300 MHz FM
> QRP (Oct. 10-15) and JOTA (Oct. 16-17) Only FM Repeater, V/U
> Please give way to JOTA stations or QSO s with JOTA stations
> Uplink: 145.880 MHz FM (no PL tone)
> Downlink: 435.150 MHz FM
Unfortunately these passes will either be in the early morning, between 5 and 7:30 local times and later, between 5 and 7:30pm and so many groups may not have the opportunity to work this bird, but there are other opportunities on several other satellites that happen in the middle of the day on both `Saturday and Sunday.
Find someone who has some Amateur Radio Satellite experience and get them involved with JOTA. It is a good opportunity to tweak student interest in Ham Radio.
