JOTA ?= World Jamboree?
- I'm putting together some mini Blue Cards for those who participate in our
JOTA station, indicating that the scout has completed some of the Radio
merit badge requirements. For Field Day I have also given credit for
Emergency Prep #7, "Take part in an emergency service project, either a
real one or a practice drill...". I'm not sure JOTA counts under those
For the purposes of meeting requirement 7d of Citizenship in the World,
could JOTA be considered a "world Scout jamboree"? Would it count as an
"international event in your area" for 7e (examples given are cultural
events)? If we happened to work another country (e.g. Canada) and the
scout talked with a Canadian scout about the items in 7c, could he get
credit for that?
Are there any other Merit Badge parts that can be satisfied by taking part
And one more Radio MB question: for 7a2, "Carry on a 10 minute radio
contact using voice or Morse Code", would you count a QSO using a digital
mode such as PSK31? Should the requirement be changed to allow any mode?
Are there any that should be excluded? Should non-radio Echolink QSOs
count? (I suppose Echolink would qualify as a "simulated" contact.)
