Boy Scout Venture Crew 59 in Kutztown, PA, will offer more than 5,000 Boy
Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Crew members exposure to Amateur Radio during
the Jambo Scoutfest 2006 on the campus of Kutztown University from Friday,
May 19 through Sunday, May 21.
The crew will be using its call sign KC3BSA and will be operating a special
event station as part of the Jambo Scoutfest, sponsored by the Minsi Trails
and Hawk Mountain BSA councils.
Battery-powered and solar-powered stations will be operating on or near the
traditional Scouting frequencies on the HF bands. Activity will be on 10,
15, 20, 40 and 80 meter bands (SSB and CW) as well as 2 and 6 meters SSB and
440. There will also be a demonstration of Slow-Scan television, PSK 31 and
Boys from ages 7 through 18, girls from ages 14 to 20, and hundreds of adult
leaders, day visitors and families will get a chance to see the many facets
of Amateur Radio demonstrated by crew members. Youth also will be invited to
sit in as "guest operators" at station positions.
