The last couple of days have been kinda birdy for me. I have been seeing a snow goose everyday on my trips to and from work. It seems to have its territory well and truly staked out. I have sent pics out and as of this morning I have had only three replies as to its ID. While admiring the goose briefly on the way to work yesterday am,I saw a merlin chasing a Cooper’s hawk. Cool. Later at work I got to see activity amongst the peregrines at city hall. The male was flying agitatedly around the top of city hall. At one point it seemed like there were three adult PEFA. Speed dial Trevor H to tell him. He works just down the street and has a tower office,so he gets a birds eye view so to speak. He without binos, spots the redtail hawk soaring high above city hall. So now we know why male PEFA is acting up.
This morning ,the goose is still there,ho-hum. As I get near city hall I can see, perched on the east side, both birds. And I can hear them, which is unusual. The bird that I think is the male flies into (right inside)the hack box. That is the first time I have seen any Falcon actually go in that box. The female is still calling. At one point she does a circle around the hall and then lands right next to the hack box,all the while calling. Other people are actually noticing the calling ,possibly due to the loudness and possibly due to the large fat man in the tilly hat looking up. I stood there for a while, had a couple people ask what I was looking at,showed them and got “cool’” responses. I had to go to work, this was before 8:am,so couldn’t stay and enjoy more birding. At about 10am I had to walk downtown and of course ,looked to see if PEFA’s were out and about, nope. And no sign of them when I went home about 10:30. I will post if there is any more PEFA news
