Group Description

The purpose of this group is:to help users of all types of side imaging, and scaning sonar equipment to enjoy and get the most out of there equipment.Advancing the awareness to salt water;boaters, fishermen, and divers.Others are invited to join and learn about Side Imaging and Scaning Sonar Systems from the information here.Welcome aboard, and please join the crew here!

NOTICE:Owners/operators of Humminbird HDSI(900&1100)series equipment.

To obtain the best in Depth and Side Imaging Preformance.Suggest you change transducers;to the 1st generation SI @262/455kHz,from the High-Definition Side Imaging,HDSI@455/800kHz transducer. The 455/800 kHz HDSI Side Imaging and the 83/200 kHz Downward Looking Sonar Frequencies are not the best availiable Sonar Frequencies for Saltwater Uses. They have higher attenuation losses, that result in poor SI image quality(darker images, with less width and depths obtained). You will find the earlier SI Frequencies of 262/455 kHz for Side Imaging and 5o/200 kHz for Downward Looking Sonar of the earlier 987c units-Will Give You the Best in Depth and Side Imaging Preformance Results. Your 997c and 1197c units have these lower frequencies programed and availiable in your unit's software(See the files section, for a How To Instruction).By changing out the HDSI transducers part #XHS-9-HDSI-180-T transducer for the earlier SI(of the 900 series) # XHS-9-SI-160-T(part#710187-1) transducer, your preformance in both depth and viewable SI scan images will improve. It will then provide you deeper depths reached and better/wider useable side scan sonar images that are easier for you to view and interperate.
Humminbird does not provide information, nor promotes the use of the availiable lower frequency SI transducer in their literature or on their website. In fact they state it's only for the early 900 series:981c SI & 987c SI units. This is not correct! It's in my opinion the best keep secret about the newer Humminbird SI units.
Thank You,Cap't Ron
