Andrew Morrison's "Home"
Dear Book Arts Enthusiasts,
One way to add joy to this holiday season is to support book arts, whether it's buying through Another Room Book Arts or the Donna Seager Gallery (for the Bay Area), Vamp & Tramp, other book arts sellers, or by buying directly from the artists. We're all spending money on essentials first, but remember the obvious: the arts are what feed us emotionally, spiritually, and creatively.
The book arts community is a kind and generous group. When we buy each other's work we give and gain at the same time!

"Literary historian Patricia Wakida will present a slide lecture on the research conducted for her upcoming biography on Shig Murao, a confidant of every major literary figure that haunted the book scene and the man responsible for creating the "soul" of City Lights Bookstore."

Below is a wood cut block and the printed image for her "Edges of Bounty" 2009 calendar, for sale at the Pacific Center for the book table at the SFCB Holiday Fair, Dec. 12 & 13. A calligraphy presentation by Thomas Ingmire. Thomas Ingmire will show original works and discuss how they were made, share and explain tools he uses, demonstrate some calligraphy, and have prints and small originals for sale.
Thomas Ingmire is one of the forerunners of the modern western calligraphy movement in the world today. Focused on the exploration of calligraphy as fine arts medium, he has exhibited widely in the United States and his works can be found in numerous libraries, museums, and publications, including the The Art of Thomas Ingmire by Michael Gullick, which documents a large body of Ingmire's work.
The uniqueness of Thomas Ingmire's art work lies in its relationship to the traditions of calligraphy. Elected in 1977 to the English Society of Scribes and Illuminators, Ingmire was the first American and first person outside of the United Kingdom to receive this honor. Teaching since l978, he has conducted workshops throughout the United States , Canada , Australia , and several countries in Europe as well as in Japan and Hong Kong . The recently published Codici 1, edited by Ingmire, reveals insights into his teaching and working philosophies on modern calligraphy.
