        On my 386 I wanted to preserve the full  rail over the hatchway because it is often useful when  going below in rough weather.  We added a second slightly elevated  rail and three pods and wired through the new rail. Of course the new rail added to the expense.  It has not been a problem either with the traveler or the mainsheet.  I am very happy with the new arrangement.

        (Sorry don’t have your name).  Attaching photo I took of a 426 near me, when I was searching for inspiration on how to do this on my 402.

         

        If you enlarge your view, you’ll see the black and white wires exiting the bottom of the stainless tube on the port side of the grab rail, taken into cabin top directly underneath.

         

        For my installation, I chose the same pod (Edson), because of its looks.   There were for me, two challenges:

        1.       Rail mounting brackets for the pod are sized for 1” tube – the grab rail on my 402 is 7/8”, requiring a shim.  I used some judiciously chosen PVC pipe stock.

        2.       Running the wires. This was a major pain.  As far as I could tell, you are forced to drill the tube, because of the way the rail is attached to the house roof.  This forces a roof penetration (I hate that!), and then, once inside, the wires run inside the headliner, but avoiding the hatch garage, various reinforcing bits of lumber (I wish I could have X-rayed the cabin top).  My solution was to go with port side (avoids the head compartment) back into headliner in stern cabin, down into the hanging locker, thence under the stern berth;  I could connect the Seatalk bus to my autopilot compass that lives under the stern berth.

         

        Very satisfying when completed!

            Did you run your transducers to the displays directly or did you use a itc5? I can avoid the ITC5 by running the transducers directly to the displays. But this means three wires in and one out, I wonder if running the 4 wires inside the small grab bar would be too much.

            Can you tell me how (like in the picture) the pod attaches to a horizontal tubing?

              Currently have only one Seatalk Multiview mounted in there. The seatalk is a multi-drop bus so does simplify connections  - only have to tap in to any other device on the string.

               

              I’ll get you a photo of the back of our unit.
