Group Description

Horse slaughter is one of the most barbaric industries on the planet, specially the slaughterhouses in Mexico where most US horses end up. A brief description of what happens to horses slaughtered in Mexico:

"The American mare swung her head frantically when the door to the kill box shut, trapping her inside. A worker jabbed her in the back with a small knife seven, eight, nine times. Eyes wild, she lowered her head and raised it as the blade punctured her body around the withers, again and again. At the 10th jab, she fell to the floor of this Mexican slaughterhouse, bloodied and paralyzed but not yet dead. She would lie there two minutes before being hoisted upside down from a chained rear leg so her throat could be slit and she could bleed to death"

US horses travel for days under most inhumane conditions to be barbarically slaughtered in Mexico or Canada. Since a ban to transport live horses for slaughter has been pending for years, our horses continue to be rapidly moved over the borders. It is imperative that U.S. citizens lobby for enactment of laws to stop the transportation of slaughter-bound equines. Additionally, our wild horses are being destroyed by the BLM on a cynical attempt to make the lands available for cattle ranchers and other interest groups. Our horses and burros which have lived freely for hundreds of years as one of the richest America's heritage are at risk of being decimated.

This group is designed to help end these horrific killings & the destruction of our wild horses. Our targets: The BLM & related US gov't offices, the US Congress to enact laws to end live horse transportation for slaughter purpose & the EU Parliament to intervene with the importation of these tortured animals for food. We will also be cooperating with horse friendly orgs, and taking actions on our own: petitions, letter writing, protests, and forming networks.
