      Dear Robin,

If Mr. PC Alexander and others in the IO church are saying that: "Syriac language does not exist. Syriac is a classical language like Latin, even through they are not used in modern communication, it is still considered classical liturgical language. It is very similar to how Roman Catholics use Latin and not Italian in their western liturgy," then they are either intentionally or unintentionally misleading others.

Syriac is spoken by many people today as their first language. If you are on the East Coast of the USA, please visit St. Gabriel's Syriac Orthodox Church in Hackensack, NJ. It is a fully Syriac Qurbana, including the readings and sermon. Most of the people there speak Syriac as their first language. Of course, Syriac has different dialects, and people in our Church speak several different dialects.

P.S. The Roman Catholics don't use latin in their "western liturgy," anymore unless they have special permission to do us. They always use the language of the congregation.
