Is there any relevance for a National Church ?

(Many of the Catholicose faction members seems to be in favour of converting the Malankara Church as a NATIONAL Church just like Byzantine Churches.  Is there any need for that ?

The extracts given below, from the scholarly book, “Veni Vidi Vici - the story of an apostolic visit” by D Babu Paul  written in 1982 (Page 169), may be helpful to clarify the doubt )

-------If the national boundaries are the bases for autocephaly why do they (Catholicose faction) want the American citizens (who originally belonged to India) to be under their Catholicos ?  Should they not be autocephalous, too ?  Again if the Indian church was autocephalous and if there was Syrian Christians in the area which subsequently became Pakistan, would there now be a Pakistan Orthodox Church ?  And a Bangladesh Orthodox Church from December 1971 ?  If a common language or ethic affinity is the basis for autocephaly, how many such Churches should there be in India ? Can’t there be an autocephalous Church for every state in India ?  Why should the Metropolitan of Delhi be subject to the Catholicos in the far distant town of Kottayam ?  The Church, the Body of Christ, truly transcends limitations of geography, language and race.  It is not a familial or social group with common vested interests. ---------                 (Page 169)
