      Dear Alex jojo,

The sacrifice made by Ahatalla Bava for establishing
the true faith in Malankara is without parallel.

Your posting that the coonan cross is now named after
      a priest is true.

I would like to give information on a subject which
may be connected with Ahatalla Bava.

There is a Latin Catholic Church south of mattancherry
at Arthungal,in the coast of arabian Sea. Just after
Koonan Cross oath, some fishermen belonging to this
church had an experiance while returning from sea at
      night.

In the distance they saw a glow/light in the sea. out
of curiocity they went to the place. they were
surprised to find a dead body floating in the sea.
Around the body there was a heavenly glow, which had
attracted the fishermen. They immediately took the
body from the sea and returned to the shore.

The body was not that of a native. it was that of a
foreigner and was in robes. Surprisingly there was no
fish bite in the body and there was no signs of
decomposition. The fishermen were really surprised and
took the body to their church and with the help of
      their priest cremated the body.

The fishermen named the body,"Veluthachen", thinking
that the body is that of a priest. later to be known
as "Arthungal Veluthachen". They started the annual
      'perunal' of 'Arthungal veluthachen'.

The fishing community in coastal area still consider
      "veluthachen" to be their protector.

Its said that hundreds of miracles have happened in
the tomb of 'Arthungal Veluthachen', and the perunal
at Artungal is conducted in a big way even now.

Was that body that of Mor Ahatalla Bava???

      There is no clear proof.

but still the timing of retreving the body from sea,
the fact that there was no hints of any portugese
priests or bishops missing in sea, and the fact that
the catholic church had tried without sucess to stop
that perunal later gives me doubts.

Its also a fact that jacobites from south paroor,
      chempu, mulanthuruty, kandanad, karingachira, piravom
etc used to go to the perunal of 'arthungal
veluthachen' till almost a century and half back
believing that the tomb belongs to Mor Ahatalla Bava
gives strength to my doubts.( it got stopped later,
probably because the tradition was not passed on to
      the younger generation )

PS : if it was the body of Mor Ahatalla Bava, probably
its God almighty's way of punishing the catholic
church. The same church which had executed Bava have
ended up retreiving the body, cremeting the body with
respect, and have been praying in that tomb for
centuries and are conducting Bava's feast annualy.
