New PhD Dissertation in Syriac Liturgical Theology
On the Feast of the Holy Cross (September 14th, 2013), and the thirty third anniversary of the Apostolic Enthronement of His Holiness Moran Mar Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, Dr. Ephrem (Aboud Hanna Ishac ) presented a copy of his PhD dissertation to His Holiness, " Mor Jacob of Edessa's Anaphora: a Critical Liturgical Study, and a Comparative Linguistic Analysis", asking His Holiness’ apostolic blessing.
Dr. Ephrem defended his PhD thesis on July 5th 2013 and got a doctorate degree in Syriac liturgical theology at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik - Institute of Liturgy, (summa cum laude)! He presented his dissertation with a hope that this academic work would be like a humble prayer and a little condolence during the absence of His Eminence Mor Gregorios Youhanna Ibrahim (whom Dr. Ephrem used to serve as His Eminence’ secretary for many years in the Archdiocese of Aleppo), on a hope that the two abducted bishops come back soon.
Dr. Ephrem wrote on his dissertation to His Holiness, that he remains always faithful to serve the Holy Church taking St. Ephrem the Syrian as an example for his spiritual ministry, through diaconia and the theological research life. He is travelling soon to Graz University - Austria, for a postdoctoral research on the Syriac Anaphoras, which he is intending to focus on throughout his liturgical academic life.
