- JESUS FEEDING THE FIVE THOUSAND AND FOUR THOUSAND
We repeatedly have the gospel reading of the feeding miracle.� We know that it was in the wilderness.� We also know that the five loaves miracle was with Jews and the four was with the gentiles and was a later incident.� Why the number five and why the number seven
and as a later incident?
In the wilderness Jesus was providing the food for the journey (every Sunday we hear the word vazhy-aharam).� In 1st Samuel 21 we find David asking for the food for the journey.� Now therefore, what have you on hand?
Give�me�five�loaves of�bread in my hand. �David was running away from his enemy to preserve his life.�And the priest answered David and said, There is�no common bread on hand; but there is holy bread.� Was not
our Lord multiplying the five loaves as the food for the journey?� Jesus says that He is the bread of life that came down from the presence of His Father.� David asked for the five.�Ahimalech the priest of Nob says the bread was in the presence of God.
After this incident Jesus multiplies the seven and distributes it
among the gentiles. The fullness number seven is distributed for all bringing all within the communion and sacraments.
Again, we find David asking for a weapon.� Ahimalech had it right behind his ephod. So the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah,
there it is,�wrapped in a cloth
behind the ephod. If you will take that, take�it.�For�there
is�no other except that one here. And David said, There is�none
like it; give it to me.� This is not the sword to kill the servant of the high priest.� This is the sword that beheaded the one who trivialized God Almighty.� For the word of God�is�living
and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart� Heb 4 :12.
Hence, we proclaim sthothra kasa-yil ninnum swojathiyarum
vijathiyarum panam cheyyu kayum� and lament
satya vachanathe sariyayi padippikkunna edayanmare athil ezhunnelpikkaname.

- Dear Group Members,
Biblical interpreters and preachers have discussed this portion of the Bible many times and shared their school of thoughts to convince the greatness of Christ. To my mind more than a miracle I see it as a message given by Christ to his disciples and his followers to take care of the people around them.
Our church is conveniently forgetting this message. Our Parishes are very active on Sundays. Priests are very active to conduct the 'Koodass' for the Parishioners. Whether we are going beyond that ? Here is the relevance of the message given by Christ through this portion of the Bible.
We have a number members in our church who are not getting proper education due to the non availability of guidance and support including financial support. There are people around us who are not getting sufficient medical care. There are people around us who are not having a dwelling place. There are families around us who are suffering since the male members are drug addicts or alcoholic.
Are we not silent on these issues for the last few decades ?.
Yes our focus was different. We have to change. The church should take the initiative. There are workable models introduced by other churches with the participation of members only in the form of NGOs.It can be Parish specific, diocese specific or Church specific. In my banking career I have come across many such successful NGOs run by different churches through out India.
Let us spread the message conveyed by Christ through this portion of Bible that 'take care of the people around us'.
