The Gathering of Catholics and Orthodox Bishops at the Cathedral made
history as it was the first in Los Angeles, at Cathedral of Our Lady of
    the Angels.

    On June 18, 2013, a
meeting of Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Church Archbishops was held at
Our Lady of Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles. The fellowship was hosted
by His Eminence Archbishop Jose Gomez, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Los Angeles. His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan the
Archbishop of the Western Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church of
Antioch attended the meeting accompanied by very Rev. Fr. Abdulahad
    Shara.

Also present at the meeting were the His Eminence
Metropolitan Gerasimos, Metropolitan of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of
San Francisco; The Most Rev. Benjamin, Archbishop of San Francisco and
the West of the Orthodox Church of America; His Eminence Hovnan
Dardarian, Archbishop of the Armenian Western Archdiocese; His Grace
    Bishop Serapion, Bishop of Los Angeles of the Coptic Orthodox Church;
His Grace Bishop Maxim, Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church Diocese of
Western America; and Rev. Fr. Michell Najim (representing His Eminence
Archbishop Joseph of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Los
Angeles). The Rt. Rev. Alexei Smith, Ecumenical and Inter-religious
Officer of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles also
    participated in the meeting.

    Topics of discussion included the
influence of the Church on health care reform, foreign policy, and
immigration. Other issues discussed were the development of common
    ground in inter-religious dialogue.
