HIS HOLINESS DIRECTS CHURCH DELEGATES TO ELECT CANDIDATE FOR REGIONAL BISHOP -
- His Holiness the Patriarch directs the Church Delegates to elect a candidate to be consecrated as Regional Bishop for American Archdiocese.
His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, Supreme Head & Patriarch of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church has directed the body of the church delegates of the Malankara Archdiocese in North America to choose a candidate to be consecrated as Regional Bishop. The body of the church delegates is comprised of democratically elected representatives of parishes across U.S.A and Canada under the Malankara Archdiocese. His Holiness the Patriarch is very keen and always insists for the participation of folks under his direct jurisdiction in the process of even selecting a bishop candidate for the church; an exemplary example. The Patriarch issued an Apostolic Bull in this effect earlier after realizing that there may be a need of a Regional Bishop for looking after the regional affairs and to assist Archbishop Mor Titus Yeldho, the Patriarchal Vicar, in the spiritual governing of the American Archdiocese. It is a mere fact that although there are over fifty parishes in numbers scattered across the North American continent under the American Archdiocese, only two parishes have over one hundred member families. The concern is about the travel struggle of the Archbishop who visits each parish, whether small or large, at least once or more annually for fulfilling his pastoral duties. In fact His Eminence Mor Titus deserves great appreciation for serving his sheep of this vast Diocese, enthusiastically for the past nine years.
The next meeting of the body of church delegates is scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2013, the first day of the 28th Annual Youth & Family Conference of the Malankara Archdiocese of North America. Historically, the democratically elected body of the church delegates of the American Archdiocese has always vital role in taking up various decisive governing subjects of the Diocese and submitting recommendations to the Supreme Head of the Church, the holy Patriarch.
This time again they will abide with the Apostolic direction with prayers and utmost submission.
Preparations are under way for the fast approaching annual Youth & Family Conference to be held at the facility of Crowne Plaza Hotel, Addison(Dallas), Texas from July 18th Thursday through 21st Sunday, 2013.
With prayers for His guidance,
