- Very Rev. Joseph C. Joseph Corepiscopos of Malankara Archdiocese celebrates 35 years of sacerdotal services:
Heartfelt congratulations to our respected Corepiscopos Achen for completing 35 years of dedicated priesthood services for the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America.
Very Rev Fr Joseph C JosephVery Rev. Joseph C. Joseph Corepiscopos was born on January 13, 1952, son of the late Paulose and Mariamma Joseph, a very religious Syrian Orthodox Christian family from Vazhamuttom, Kerala. Joseph was the middle child of seven, five sisters and one brother. He was baptized at St. Ignatius Dayaro in Manjanikkara, India and dedicated him at the holy tomb of St. Ignatius Elias the III by his parents. As a young boy, Joseph expressed much interest in the church and involved in many church activities such as teaching Sunday school etc. and also served as an altar boy at his home parish. In 1974 he moved to New Delhi for professional opportunities where he continued to serve at the local parish altar and furthered his theological studies. Joseph married Mariamma in 1975 and migrated to the United States in 1976.
When Joseph arrived in Texas, he realized that there was a need for an established place of worship for the Syrian Orthodox Christians. By Lord's calling,in the fulfillment of a childhood dream, as advised by Rev. Fr. John Jacob (presently H.G.Dr.Yuhanon Mor Philexinos) and by the encouragement of fellow faithful in Dallas and Houston, Joseph decided to serve the Lord through priesthood ordination. By the grace of God, Late Lamented His Eminence Mor Athanasius Yeshu Samuel, the first Archbishop of the Malankara Archdiocese, ordained Joseph (at the age of 26) to the holy order of priesthood on March 12, 1978 in Dallas, Texas. It is noteworthy that Fr. Joseph was the first priest ordained in the American Archdiocese and has been serving the Holy Church for the last 35 years.
Rev.Fr. Joseph organized and served as the first vicar of both St. Ignatius Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Dallas and St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Houston, Texas. For employment opportunities, Fr. Joseph and family moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1987. With the direction through a blessing Kalpana of Late Lamented His Eminence Mor Athanasius Yeshu Samuel, Fr. Joseph initiated to establish the first Syrian Orthodox parish in Metro Atlanta, in the blessed intercession of Saint Mary, Mother of God and since the he has been serving that parish as its Vicar. Fr. Joseph assisted in formally organizing and establishing the St. George Syrian Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois and St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, North Carolina and also was the former Vicar at St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas. Rev.Fr.Joseph served the Archdiocese in the Archdiocesan Council and also in the Archdiocesan Clergy Council.
On May 17, 2003, St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church, Atlanta celebrated Fr. Joseph's 25th Priesthood ordination. In connection with that Silver Jubilee, Holy Qurbono was celebrated by His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I Catholicose and assisted by His Eminence Dr. Yuhanon Mor Philexinos, and His Eminence Dr. Mathews Mor Ivanios, During the Holy Qurbano a golden pectoral cross chain was blessed and presented to Fr. Joseph by His Beatitude in appreciation of his 25 years of dedicated service to the Holy Church. With Apostolic blessing of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, Fr. Joseph was elevated to Corepiscopos on April 29, 2006 by His Eminence Mor Titus Yeldho, the Archbishop & Patriarchal Vicar of the Malankara Archdiocese in North America.
The devoted, selfless, loving and compassionate service of Corepiscopos Very Rev.Joseph C. Joseph is well emulative for all of us. We pray that God Almighty to bestow His servant with strength, good health, many years of joyful life and enable him to continue serving the Holy Church for His glory.
