      Catholicos summons five MLAs

As a solution to the dispute between the two factions of Syrian Orthodox Church continues to evade, five legislators, including a minister, belonging to the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church were summoned to the Patriarch Centre, the headquarters of the church at Puthencruz, yesterday (28 April'12).

Church summoned civil supplies minister Shri Anoop Jacob and UDF convenor Shri P P Thankachan, Shri T U Kuruvila of Kerala Congress (M) and Shri Benny Behnan of the Congress and Shri. Saju Paul of the CPM.

The legislators held discussions with church chief Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselious Thomas I.

"During a press conference on Friday, the Catholicos had expressed his decision to meet the MLAs. Following this, MLAs belonging to both the ruling and Opposition fronts came to the Patriarch Centre and held discussions with the Catholicos," church sources said.

The Catholicos reportedly asked the lawmakers to take up the issue with the government and try to find a solution to the dispute. The Jacobite and Orthodox factions have been locked in a dispute over the ownership of various churches for several years.
