MEENANGADI: Very Rev P C Michael Cor Episcopa Pulliyattel passed away on Monday at his residence here at Meenangadi after a brief illness. He was 76 and is survived by his wife Annamma Michael, sons Rev Dr Jacob Michael Pulliyattel, George Michael, Paulson Michael, Thomas Michael, and two daughters Lissy Mathai and Sosamma Paulose. According to the spokesman of Malabar Diocese, Michael Cor Episcopa breathed his last at 2.00 AM.

The funeral will be held at St. Peter's & St. Paul's JSO Cathedral, here on July 26, Tuesday at 10.00 AM. Metropolitans Their Graces Mor Philoxenos Zacharias, Dr. Mor Severios Abraham, Mor Gregorios Joseph, Mor Aphrem Mathews, Mor Athanasius Elias and Mor Anthonios Yaqub and priests of Malabar, Kozhikode, Thrissur and EAE dioceses will lead the funeral prayers. Michael Cor Episcopa was the one who worked hard to build Malabar Diocese in its difficult times along with Mor Dionysius Thomas (Present Catholicos Baselios Thomas I), Dr. Mor Gregorios Geevarghese Perumpilly, LL Mor Philoxenos Samuel and Dr. Mor Philoxenos Yuhanon. Cor Episcopa held the role of diocesan administrator 1985. He served the diocese as its secretary for 25 years from 1975 till 2000, and was Sabbha Working Committee Member from 1975 till 2001. He served Morth Mariyam Samajam as its Vice President for 15 years. It was him, who arranged grand reception for His Holiness Patrairch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas in HH's historic visit to Malabar in 1982. Very rev. Cor Episcopa, the first cor Episcopa in Malabar, played key role in oraganising and constructing almost all churches in Malabar and served almost all the churches in the then Malabar Diocese. He along with Mor Philoxenos Samuel represented Malabar Diocese in the consecration of HH Ignatius Zakka I Iwas in 1982 at Damascus. It was during HH's visit to Meenangadi Cathedral, as per the recommendations of the then Catholicos, His Beatitude Baselios Paulose II and the then Diocesan Metropolitan Mor Philoxenos Samuel, HH Consecrated him as Cor Episcopa.

He was very active in the social faces of the district too. He served Thondarnad Service Co Operative Bank as its President for long time. He was the founding President of Meenangadi YMCA. It was during his tenure as vicar in Meenangadi Cathedral, St. Peter's & St. Paul's UP School was started. The malpan of the majority of priests in the then Malabar Diocese, he was a personality who attracted many to the priesthood. A man of simplicity, Michael Cor Episcopa was in fore front to keep the Holy Antiochean faith always. He was honoured with 'Acharya Shreshta' Award, Best priest Award and was listed in 'Who is who in Kerala' in 1995.

He was consecrated as Kassesso by LL Mor Severios Paulose Mulayirikkal at Koratty Zion Seminary in 1958. His Seminary education was under Njarthankal Korathu malpan and Mossa Salama Rabban at malelcuriz Dayaro. His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas and His Beatitude Catholicos Baselios Thomas I condoled on his sad demise.
