Comdr. Mr. O. Thomas Nediyuzhathil (Kottayam/Kallisserry) turned 95 on November 2, 2010.
Mr. O. Thomas is perhaps the senior most lay leader of the Knanaya Jacobite community. He is one of the senior most and respected Chartered Accountants of Kottayam and central Kerala and has received many honors in that capacity.
He was a member of the Knanaya Association (as a graduate member) from 1940 to 1952 ( till the renewal of the Constitution of the Knanaya Diocese in 1952).
He has served as Managing Committee Member from 1959 to 1962. He has also served as the Managing Trustee of the Knanaya Diocese during which period the Edessa estate was planted with Rubber (a very high income earning asset of the Knanaya Samudayam at present).
He has served as Founder Secretary of the Knanaya Students League in the year 1934 and 1935
He is the Founder Trustee of CLEMIS FUND, a Charitable Trust founded with his earnest efforts and the blessings of His Eminence Kooberneethi Hakkimo ABRAHAM MOR CLEMIS in 1992 and is still continuing as the Trustee. This Charitable Institution is carrying on remarkable philanthropic activities by rendering regular financial assistance to the deserving widows of the Knanaya Samudayam The capital of the Trust is over Rupees Sixteen lakhs at present.
In recognition of his services to the Knanaya Samudayam His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church granted the decoration of St Ignatius Theophoros as Commander on 11 January 2007.
Born on 2 November 1915 as the 5th child of Mr Kuruvilla Oonnittan and Mrs Chinnamma of Nediyuzhathil family at Kallisserry, Chengannur. His father was a prominent tobacco businessman, who also owned rubber and coffee estates and operated a Chit Fund.
He got married in 1936 to Annamma (grand daughter of Mr Uthuppan Thomas, Vazhayil - the 1st Managing Trustee of Knanaya Diocese) and daughter of Mr T.Joseph Vazhayil (one among the founder members of Magdalana Mariam School at Kurichy and the 1st Christian auditor of Travancore and the 1st auditor of the Knanaya Samudayam)
Graduated in Commerce (B.Com) from Kolkatta as the first Commerce Graduate of the Knanaya Diocese in the year 1937 and was felicitated at the Magdalana Mariam School, Kurichy.
The Travancore Government granted License to him as a Certified Auditor till 1949.
When the Government of India enacted the Chartered Accountants Act 1949 he was declared as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
He is blessed with a son and three daughters. (Oonnykunju, Kunjumol, Monamma and Ponnamma.)
Even though, he still attends office, the practice is continued by his only son Oonnykunju, a senior Chartered Accountant.
May he live for another twenty five years continuing his service to God and fellow human beings!!
